Dog Photographer in Lancaster — Relaxed Outdoor Dog Portraits

Natural, character-led dog portraits — photographed outdoors in Lancashire & the Lake District

I’m a professional dog photographer in Lancaster, specialising in relaxed, natural outdoor dog photography. Most sessions take place at Williamson Park, one of Lancaster’s most beautiful locations, where your dog can feel comfortable and be themselves.

I also photograph dogs across Morecambe, South Cumbria and the South Lakes.

Specialist dog photographer with over a decade of experience, trusted by hundreds of local owners to capture dogs just as they are — expressive, full of character, and completely themselves.

Photography designed around dogs — not poses

For the past 10+ years, I’ve specialised exclusively in photographing dogs outdoors, where they feel most confident and at ease.

Sessions are calm, unhurried, and tailored to your dog’s personality — whether that means gentle wandering, playful energy, or simply letting them explore things at their own pace. No forced poses. No awkward setups. Just honest, beautifully crafted portraits that reflect who your dog really is.

Every session is personally photographed and carefully edited by hand, with guidance provided afterwards to help you choose the photographs you love most.

"Absolutely brilliant service from start to finish. I have a 14.5 year old pug who is reactive to other dogs and I wanted some professional pictures of her on our local prom/sea front. Phil asked a number of relevant questions about Poppy and what I wanted. I felt he was very engaged and understanding.

On the day of the shoot Phil and his super helpful assistant (wife) could not have done a better job. They looked for the best shots while taking Poppy's temperament into consideration at all times.

The pictures were ready to view the next day. When they arrived I was bowled over! I knew they would be good but they far exceeded expectations. Fantastic service, highly recommend."

Where Sessions Take Place

I regularly photograph pets in and around Lancaster, including familiar outdoor spaces such as woodland paths, parks, coastal walks, and quiet local trails.

Most sessions take place locally, where I know the light, surroundings, and seasonal conditions well — helping create relaxed, natural images.

If you have a favourite location elsewhere in Lancashire or South Cumbria, this can often be discussed by request. I’m also happy to suggest suitable locations that match your dog’s personality and energy.

Meet Phil - Your Pet Photographer

Hi, I’m Phil, the photographer behind PJL Pet Photography.

PJL Pet Photography is the specialist dog photography brand of photographer Phil Lord, based in Lancaster and working across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

I’ve spent years photographing dogs, cats and the people who love them.

The most meaningful photographs aren’t the ones where everything is perfect —

they’re the ones where your pet is simply being themselves.

I work gently, patiently and at your pet’s pace.

No pressure, no posing they don’t want to do — just time spent somewhere they feel happy.

My aim is to create photographs full of personality, emotion and warmth —

the kind you’ll treasure for years, because they feel real..

"What an absolutely superb photographer Phil is as well as being a genuinely really lovely guy. Fabulous ideas for location shots and was great with my girl Bailey. She's a very pretty dog anyways, but my goodness the quality and standard of the pictures that have been produced today are phenomenal. No idea how I'm guna choose between them all. I would highly recommend Phil for all your photography needs, you'd definitely not be disappointed."

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you photograph dogs outside Lancaster?

Yes. While most sessions take place in Lancaster, I also photograph dogs for clients travelling from South Cumbria, the South Lakes and surrounding areas by arrangement.

Where will the session take place?

Sessions usually take place in and around Lancaster, including familiar outdoor locations such as Williamson Park, where dogs feel relaxed and comfortable. If you have a favourite walk elsewhere in Lancashire or South Cumbria, this can often be discussed by request and may be subject to additional travel costs. If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to suggest suitable local locations that suit your dog’s personality and energy.

How much does a session cost?

A standard outdoor session is £95, which includes up to one hour on location and full editing of your final images. After your gallery is ready, you can choose the digital images, prints or artwork you’d like at your own pace — there’s no minimum order and no pressure.

My dog is shy, anxious or reactive — can we still do this?

Absolutely.I have lots of experience working with nervous, rescue and reactive dogs. We’ll choose a quiet location, keep plenty of space, and take things gently. Your dog’s comfort always comes first — there’s no rush and no expectation.

My dog never sits still — is that okay?

Yes. Truly. Most of the dogs I photograph are playful, energetic, excitable or curious — that’s where the joy comes from. Your dog doesn’t need to behave, listen or pose. I simply let them be themselves and work around their pace and personality.

What if the weather is bad?

If it rains heavily or conditions aren’t good for your dog’s comfort, we’ll rearrange. There’s no charge to reschedule — we’ll simply choose another day.

Can I be in the photos too?

Yes — if you’d like to be. There’s no posing required, just simple, natural moments: a hand resting on their fur, a walk together, a quiet sit. These often become the most meaningful images. If you’d prefer the session to focus entirely on your dog, that’s perfectly okay too.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes — gift vouchers make a thoughtful, personal present for dog lovers. Each voucher includes a session and a 10×8” print, with the option to add additional artwork later.
